Meadow Glade Adventist Elementary School

Meadow Glade Adventist Elementary School is pleased to announce Gayla Shomler is joining the 5-6 teaching team for the 2021-2022 school year.

Shomler, who recently completed her master’s degree in literacy from Eastern Washington University, joins the MGAES teaching staff with several years of classroom teaching experience. She comes highly recommended by former colleagues, supervisors and members of the school board where she was a teacher in Olympia, WA. Gayla is creative and loves to incorporate the arts into her classroom teaching. She focuses on integrating content and skill learning across the curriculum. Lisa Haberthur, MGAES Board Chair, says of Shomler, “During the interview process, Gayla impressed the Personnel Committee with her knowledge of learning and making it relevant and applicable to students in the classroom.”

Gayla, a mother of two young adult sons, is a Pacific Northwest native, growing up in Renton, Washington. She graduated from Laurelwood Adventist Academy and Walla Walla University. She is passionate about teaching, music and is fluent in Spanish. When asked about her Spanish fluency, Ms. Shomler shared that she is a conversationalist through and through. Her passion in music has already been shared at Meadow Glade Church as she recently participated with a worship team. We are excited for Ms. Shomler to share her passions with our students and staff at MGAES.

Haberthur says “We are fortunate to have [Gayla] join us for the new school year. We know she will be a welcome addition to our school and community.” Indeed, we are excited to have her, with her commitment to excellence, love for facilitating learning, and passion for students and teaching.
